PUPILS have welcomed an Olympic swimmer to a school in York.
Chris Cook, who represented Great Britain at the 2004 Olympics and took gold medals in the 50m and 100m finals of the 2006 Commonwealth Games, visited Skelton School yesterday.
Chris led an assembly for the whole school, then delivered a PE session with one of the classes, and the visit was organised by Key Stage One teacher Jodie Pugh.
She said: “It’s very, very exciting, we’ve all been looking forward to it, we’ve been working hard learning about him and watching videos of the Olympics and athletes so the children can get an idea of what they are and what he does.
“I’m hoping they will be inspired to get out there and do some exercising, even if it’s not swimming. He’s someone who’s done really well, so even if he inspires them to just take part in PE a bit more, that’s a benefit.”
