THERE’S a new head teacher at a North Yorkshire secondary school.

Julie Caddell has taken up the role of head teacher at Barlby High School. She was previously vice principal: training and teaching school at Manor CE Academy in York.

Julie started her teaching career in Thirsk, moving to Manor in 2003 where she became head of RE, head of year and later, vice principal. She is a director of the Ebor Teaching Schools Alliance and has been heavily involved with the development of teacher training, leadership development and working with the DfE to recruit international teachers.

York Press:

Julie has taken the reins from outgoing interim head teacher Tony Rawdin, who led the school for a year, until a new appointment was made.

She will work closely with Hope Learning Trust York and senior colleagues at Manor CE Academy and Vale of York Academy. Working in partnership with Hope Learning Trust, York will ensure the very best development opportunities for staff, leading to strong outcomes for students.

Julie said: “It will be a real privilege to work with the students and staff at Barlby High School. I’ve already spent quite some time in school getting to know everyone and have been made to feel very welcome. This is a great opportunity for us all to work together, to carry on Mr Rawdin’s hard work over the last year and continue to build on the school’s success to make it even better.”

York Press:

“Barlby High School is an 11-16 school which has been part of the Barlby community since 1960. I am keen to engage with the Barlby community and to develop strong links with the primary schools in the area to work collaboratively with them.”

“I’m looking forward to forging strong relationships with parents to ensure open communication between the school, parents and families. We all have the best interests of the children at heart, so it’s vital that we all share ideas, thoughts and plans for the future of the school.” Paul Cannovan, chairman of governors, said: “This is a new chapter in the school’s history, and I am confident that under Julie’s leadership, Barlby High will have a bright future. I would also like to thank Tony Rawdin for his hard work and dedication.”
