A SENIOR Labour politician has stopped off at his old school in York to talk about his party's election prospects, as well as his own work in politics.

Shadow Housing Secretary John Healey was on the campaign trail in York earlier this week, and spent time with pupils at his old school St Peter's.

Mr Healey was back at the school for the first time in 39 years, and spoke to current politics pupils about the important issues facing Britain, and his own political career under four very different Labour leaders.

The school's head of politics Ben Fuller said: "It was a pleasure to welcome John back after so many years away, particularly at this critical time in British politics.

"He was very frank and honest in his discussions with our pupils, and it was particularly interesting to hear how he balances his own interests with those of his constituents and his party.

"We’re all very grateful to John for taking the time out of his busy schedule to come and talk to us."
