A SIGN language teacher from York has been recognised for her work in education.
Annalee Green who works at Hempland School in Heworth won a Signature award for her work in education support -a category open to notetakers, lipspeakers, teaching assistants and others who support in the classroom.
Since 2015 Hempland - which is a member of the Pathfinder Academy Trust - has been home to the Caddell Centre which specialises in teaching primary school-aged children who are deaf and hearing impaired, after it was commissioned by City of York Council. The children are taught the mainstream curriculum, where appropriate, with support from specialist teachers and teaching assistants.
York’s John Lewis store also picked up an award from Signature in their training initiative category which recognises work they have done to improving customer service for deaf and deafblind people.
