THERE have been celebrations at York College after it was named Yorkshire’s number one general further education college.

The college was also rated in the top three colleges in the country for A-Levels - based on points per entry.

On results day last year the college’s A-Level students got a 99.8 per cent pass rate, with over 55 per cent of students getting A* - B grades.

This year about a thousand York College students have submitted successful UCAS applications.

Out of this number, five students have secured conditional Oxbridge places.

Glyn Jones, assistant principal for A-Levels said: “With a ‘junior university’ ethos, specialist tutors and important pastoral support, the college’s outstanding learning environment enables students to perform to the best of their ability and progress to the next stage of their careers.”
