PUPILS at Bootham School have launched a Love Where You Live campaign as part of their mission to achieve Ambassador status within the national Eco Schools initiative.

As part of their project, the BEAST – Bootham Environment and Sustainability Team – has linked up with mini BEAST, their counterparts at Bootham Junior School, and with girls from The Mount School to undertake a litter picking exercise around their neighbouring streets.

To help get their message across while tidying up the streets the pupils have designed tabards with slogans such as “‘We’re not naughty, we just care”.

Harriet Ennis, a teacher from Bootham School, said: “In order to achieve Ambassador status, which is the highest possible ranking with Eco Schools, the students must demonstrate that they are inspiring the wider community beyond the school gates.

“In school, we have already seen a substantial reduction in energy use. The team works closely with the Bursar’s department, ensuring that things like the new arts centre, which is currently being built is constructed to the highest possible energy saving standards. Passionate is a word that’s often banded about, but I can say that the students are genuinely passionate about the environment.”
