Warning sent out to parents of Easingwold School pupils over comments
9:13am Monday 22nd October 2012 in Education news
Parents of pupils at Easingwold School have had a letter warning them that a similar group called Easingwold Secrets has been set up on Facebook.
John Butcher, assistant head teacher, said: “A number of our students have joined the group and it appears that several have contributed comments about other students which are very unpleasant and sometimes disgusting and defamatory.
“Because they are sent to the owner of the group, the identity of the people who have supposedly made these comments is kept hidden. This can be particularly upsetting for those about whom comments are made because they are likely to wonder who has done it and why.
“However, while it is difficult to identify who has made the unpleasant comments, we know which of our students have accessed the page, joined the group, and posted comments about the site. We are in the process of contacting the parents of all these students so that they are aware of the page and its content.”
The site has since been removed and the school has yet to involve the police.
