TUNEFUL youngsters from a York school have ensured they are a step closer to having a new music room.

The musicality club at Archbishop of York's CE Junior School took over the cafe at St Crux parish hall to serve drinks and help raise £1,300.

Musical performances also helped to draw in customers to the cafe, which was held the day before the Grand Depart came to York.

The Bishopthorpe school has nearly reached its fundraising target of £54,000 needed to pay for a specialist music room. The room is much needed as at the moment classes are held in the library or the staff room.

Headteacher Jonathan Green said: "They got a fabulous response and were applauded."
