A THEATRE production of Grease has raised £500 for Applefields School in Burnholme.

Flying Ducks Youth Theatre staged the musical at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre in York in April with a collection for the school for pupils with special educational needs.

Sue Blanchard, a spokeswoman for the theatre group, said: "It was nearly a sell-out performance. It is a cause somebody within the group has links with and we felt it was a really worthwhile charity to give the funding to. The school does so much and helps so many people.

"The performance was really well attended and people were probably uplifted to give so generously."

The not-for-profit theatre group includes 40 children from across York and ranged in age from 12 to 18-years-old.

Their next production in March has been announced as The Wiz.
