A GIANT African land snail and Millie the Millipede were among the special guests as a York primary school staged its very own Ugly Bug Ball.
Children in Early Years at Hempland Primary in Heworth enjoyed a day of special activities and games to round off their half term topic of mini beasts and dressed up for the occasion as all manner of creepy crawlies.
As part of the day the 60 four and five-year-olds received a visit from Sam's Safari, and got to admire and handle various mini beasts, decorated biscuits as bug, created caterpillars out of egg boxes and had their faces painted.
Early Years teacher Emma Smithells said many children came as beautiful butterflies, ladybirds and spiders while two of the boys went one step further by dressing as a bombardier beetle and a woodlouse.
"They all had a really good day," she said.
