CITY MP Hugh Bayley MP has visited York College to congratulate students and staff on their recent Ofsted success.

Mr Bayley went to the college after it received an "Outstanding" Ofsted inspection report, and took part in the Student of the Month presentation honouring recent achievements.

He said: “I congratulate the college and its students for winning the very top rating from the government watchdog Ofsted, and the Students of the Month who I met today."

The MP also paid tribute to the college's work to get young people in York into work.

He added: "Youth unemployment in York is much lower than in other towns and cities in Yorkshire, and we owe the college and our other excellent educational institutions in York for giving our young people the skills to get jobs and to keep attracting new employers to the city.

“The College has a well- deserved reputation for bringing the best out in all the students and this is achieved by high quality teaching and a commitment to treating students as individuals and valuing the contribution they make.”

During the Mr Bayley met students in the college’s Art & Design and Performing Arts divisions.
