Knights lose to the Eagles

HOOKER Tom Hodgson scored four tries for York City Knights, but still ended up on the losing side in last night's Reserve Grade Academy clash with Sheffield Eagles at Huntington Stadium.

Knights touched down seven times, but only managed three conversions as they went down 36-34, missing a late conversion attempt which would have earned a third consecutive draw.

The home side stormed into a 14-0 lead after 20 minutes with tries by Hodgson, Johnny Waldron and Joe Stearman, with Andy Gargan kicking one conversion.

However, the Eagles hit back to lead 24-14 at the break.

The sides exchanged tries throughout the second half, with Hodgson completing his four-timer to add to a second Waldron score. Gargan converted two of the touch- downs.

Academy coach Paul Higgins said: "We could have got a draw but we missed some kicks at goal, so we didn't deserve to win.

"It was a poor defensive performance from both sides."

Higgins was full of praise for Hodgson while he added that first-team hopefuls Mark Applegarth and Adam Endersby came through the fixture unscathed.
