A PENGUIN named after Paris Hilton has ended up mimicking the behaviour of the socialite heiress.

The penguin was named after the society girl when her incessant screaming for food raised fears over her parents' health.

Staff at Scarborough Sea Life Sanctuary put penguin Paris behind bars in a fenced off section to give the parents, Dick and Dougal, a break - but in more star-like adventures, Paris escaped and had to be locked up once more.

Animal care expert Lyndsey Crawford said: "Although she should be fending for herself by now, and will eat whole fish when the staff dole them out, she still constantly pesters her parents to get them to regurgitate more food for her.

"As long as she is still able to see the other penguins through the bars of the fence and can chatter to them and occasionally touch bills, the separation shouldn't be too hard on her."

Fancy footwork plans for City

YORK City fans will tell you they're used to seeing fancy footwork at Kit Kat Crescent.

Now they can put their own ball-skills to the test - on the dance-floor. The football club has applied to City of York Council for a licence permitting them to put on dancing events in the social club next to the main stand.

Let's hope anyone with two left feet is on the dance-floor rather than the pitch next season - unless they're playing for the opposition.

Mystery TV date lined up on MTV

IT was lights, camera, action in one York pub this week when a TV crew arrived to film for a new series.

A crew from MTV were at the Biltmore in Swinegate, to film for a new top-secret show.

The cameramen and director were keeping tight-lipped about the nature of name of the show, but said they were filming "lifestyle shots" for one of the series' early episode.

The Diary understands the show is a British version of the American series My Super Sweet 16, which goes behind the scenes as teenagers try to organise a memorable birthday party.

Let's hope it doesn't end up being gate-crashed, like the one held by two Harrogate teenagers earlier this week.
