Winner: Heworth Post Office
Runners Up: Little Green Rascals, Access Travel
There was a flood of nominations for a variety of businesses and services which have displayed outstanding customer care in the last year, but the judges had to choose one winner.
Organic day nursery Little Green Rascals was nominated for the positivity, helpfulness, care and support offered by owner and founder Vanessa Warn, while Jenny and Neil Chadwick, of New Earswick-based Access Travel, were praised for their support to people with learning and mobility difficulties who use their coach service.
Cheers echoed around the ceremony at York Racecourse for each of the nominess, with the loudest coming for the staff of Heworth Post Office, whose customers had inundated the panel with praise for their courteousness and patience, especially with elderly customers.
Several nominations for the post office praised the staff, and postmaster Kenneth Slee, and said everything was “done with no fuss”, and staff were “unflappable, even if there’s a long queue or it’s nearly closing time”.
Mr Slee took to the stage with the other members of staff to receive the award, and praised each of the entrants for the awards, including York People First, whose members regularly use the Heworth Post Office.
He said: “We’d like to thank all the people who voted for us.
We’re part of the community, and very proud of our award.
“We endeavour to give a good service and I’m very lucky to have such wonderful staff.”
