WINNER: Tour de Tang Hall
Runners-up: Community Café at Lidgett Grove Methodist Church, Sprouts Community Garden
Something special must be happening in York communities, because we have never known so many strong contenders in this category. Lidgett Grove Methodist Church Community Café and Sprouts Community Garden both bring people of all ages together, and the judges said that is exactly what a community project should do.
But our panel decided this year the award should go to the Tour de Tang Hall - inspired by the Grand Depart's visit to York this year.
The project received overwhelming support – it was truly impressive to hear of the churches, community groups, student groups, council staff and Tang Hall families who all threw themselves into making the day so special and showed off this area’s spirit at its very best.
In fact, it was so successful that the team behind it have told Community Pride presenter kate Walby that they had already started making plans for another, even bigger, Tour de Tang Hall next year.
They said: "We all smiled that day. The children smiled, parents smiled, it was amazing."
