WINNER: Celia Crampton

Runners-up: Jade Ross, Theresa Etheridge-Clarke and Tony Clarke

This was another category which gave the panel of judges a tough task to compile a shortlist, and then decide on a winner.

Among the finalists was Jade Ross, whose daughter Sianagh was honoured in last year's Community Pride awards for her achievements as a para-climber. This year, the judges were delighted to shortlist Jade for the Parent of the Year award, in recognition of the endless support she gives Sianagh and her other children.

Loving parents, Tony and Theresa have worked to preserve the memory of their son Blaise - another Community Pride winner - and to help other heartbroken families through the loss of a child by setting up a dedicated support group for bereaved parents.

But in the end it was the numerous compelling entries made for Celia Crampton which particularly moved the judges. Although she spent much of her life in London, Celia moved to York to care for her great-aunt and the judges could see that she always puts others before herself, is been a rock of support to her children, brought up her granddaughter and has helped many friends and relatives through dark times. Her home in Dringhouses is, her nominations said, the true heart of the family.

Celia said she was shocked, and very proud, to receive the award, and gave a touching tribute to her family, saying: "I wouldn't be here without my family. They are my life, my rock, my everything and my reason for living."
