GRATEFUL patients and families have put the health service stars who helped them through difficult times forward for recognition.

Specialist rehabilitation physiotherapist Vicky Pursey and a the coronary care team from York District Hospital have both been nominated for the Community Pride's Health Service Hero award.

Physiotherapist Vicky has been put forward by Christine Williams, who had to have both legs amputated following a bout of meningitis.

Christine said Vicky helped her come to terms with what happened and learn to walk with prosthetic legs, and has gone above and beyond by supporting Christine's family through the ordeal.

She added: "The surgeon who amputated my legs may have saved my life but Vicky put it back together."

Meanwhile the coronary care team lead by Dr Simon Megarry, has been nominated by Sharon Croskin, whose mother they cared for before her death.

Sharon said: "The care that they gave was exceptional.

"They tended her with expertise but also with a warmth, kindness and compassion. It is due to their care that mum was able to remain with us as long as she was.

"They deserve this recognition, not only because they do their jobs but because they care for their patients as people."
