THE York Hospital Radio has been nominated for a community pride award for the upbeat and comforting broadcasts it airs to those admitted to York Hospital.
The radio team have been nominated for the “service with a smile” award because of the way the dedicated volunteers offer comfort to those who have had to spend their time in hospital.
For the last 50 years the radio has broadcast day and night and, according to former patient Brenda Mackfall, has been a great help and inspiration to those who have been admitted.
She said: “Hospital can be a lonely and frightening place and the radio team have given comfort to many in an always difficult and sensitive time.”
Brenda Mackfall nominated the team for this award in order to show her gratitude after she had a spell in hospital.
She said: “All the announcements do a wonderful job, excellent music and comforting chatter with humour as well.
“Keep up the good work.”
The Community Pride Awards are run by The Press and City of York Council and sponsored by Benenden Health. Nominations have now closed and the winners will be announced in October.
