Santa and Lions break fundraising record

FATHER Christmas helped Ryedale residents raise a record sum of cash for charitable causes.

Santa hopped on his sleigh to visit more than 20 towns and villages across Ryedale. He was spreading festive cheer and collecting funds as part of an annual fundraising tour organised by The Ryedale Lions Club.

Its door-to-door collection in Pickering, Kirkbymoorside, Helmsley and surrounding areas raised more than £6,500 – the most in the nine-year history of the event.

The money raised will help local charities, such as the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Ryedale Special Families. Bob Peirson, Lions’ organiser of the Santa tour, said: “Ryedale folk have been more than generous.”
