CHRISTMAS spirit came to a York care home thanks to a joint initiative between a local charity and staff from the university and council.
York Cares, the employee-volunteering charity, arranged for local volunteers to spend their lunch hours with residents of 15 different elderly people’s homes throughout this week.
In the first of the events yesterday, volunteers from City of York Council and University of York sang Christmas carols and ate mince pies with the residents of Woolnough House in Hull Road, pictured.
Jacqui Tesselment from York Cares said more than 120 volunteers had agreed to take part throughout the week.
She said: “It’s so rewarding for the volunteers and the elderly residents and really marks the start of the festive period in York. Our thanks go to everyone involved.”
