PUPILS at Tadcaster Grammar School got all dressed up for Christmas Jumper Day.
The youngsters were taking part in the Save The Children national day of fundraising "wearing a woolly" for a great cause.
Christmas Jumper Day was today (Friday 12 December), but students and staff at Tadcaster Grammar celebrated the day early by incorporating it into their festive celebrations held on Wednesday.
Christmas lunch for all was served to the accompaniment of the Big Band playing all the festive favourites; a fitting environment to don Christmas sweaters, silly hats, reindeer antlers and any garment with glitter and sparkle.
Students were invited to donate £1 for the privilege of wearing non-uniform and every pound donated will be matched by the UK Government this Christmas, doubling donations and making an even bigger difference for children.
“I was staggered by the statistics of more than 10 million children under the age of five who die worldwide every year, which is a busload of children every three minutes and it seemed a wonderful opportunity to support the work of Save The Children,” said Music Teacher Gillian Hainsworth, who initiated the day in school. “It was great to see students and members of staff alike supporting this and getting into the spirit of it all,” she added.
