Women's taxi group needs more drivers

3:53pm Monday 19th February 2001

A TAXI service run by women for women is looking for drivers, as demand for the service increases.

The safety-obsessed firm, which sports purple flowers on its aerials, will soon celebrate its second birthday.

Boss Caroline Baldwin has seen the firm grow from two to a team of 15.

She said: “Our biggest problem is recruiting drivers because it is perceived as a male-dominated job and it is not safe for women to drive at night, particularly from their partner's point of view.

“But when drivers join us they realise safety is of utmost importance.”

All jobs taken by the firm are logged by the firm, and drivers reserve the right to turn away customers they are unsure of.

She added: “Many ladies have said we've opened doors for them to go out at night. We make sure they get home safely, and are in the house before driving off.” Call Ladies First on 020 8460 0606.
