A CUSTOMER of a York farm shop that has only been open for three months has nominated the business for The Press Shop Of The Year award.

John Atkin has put Sunnyside Farm Shop in the frame to win the title by praising the high standard of the produce on sale at the Wigginton store and the friendliness of the staff there.

Mr Atkin said: “Tucked away just behind Sunnyside farm house, the shop has only been open for three months and offers a wide range of high-quality, locally-sourced organic produce such as meats, fruit and veg, eggs and bread. As everything on sale is produced locally the quality is excellent and the prices are comparable to the supermarkets.

“There are plenty of parking spaces and you are always met by a smiling face as you enter the traditional-style building. I hope the shop runs for many years – it’s great to be able to just pop in and get top-quality service and produce.”

The shop, in Mill Lane, is owned by 45-year-old Rachael Middleton, who works in the store alongside her son, Luke.

The award, intended to reward and recognise exceptional quality of service, is part of the York Means Business campaign, which aims to promote and support businesses across York, North and East Yorkshire during the recession.

The winner will enjoy a night for two at York’s luxurious hotel, the Dean Court near the Minster, before a champagne breakfast and then a trip in a stretch limo with White Stretch Limousines of Riccall to York Racecourse, to attend The Press Family Raceday. Nominations for the award have now closed.
