HOLIDAY-MAKERS from York will be able to reach the continent more easily from next spring, when budget airline easyJet starts flying from the region.

The firm will run 21 flights a week from Doncaster Robin Hood Airport, beginning on April 19.

Destinations are Amsterdam, Barcelona, Faro, Palma and Prague. The airport faced uncertainty just two months ago, after Ryanair revealed it was pulling its flight to Dublin and site owners Peel Holdings said they were looking for investors.

Paul Simmons, easyJet UK’s regional general manager, said the firm’s choice of destinations would appeal to both the business and tourist markets.

The firm expects to carry 300,000 passengers in the routes’ first year.
