BARCLAYS bank has launched its new city-centre branch in Parliament Street, York.

The branch will be the flagship branch for the city centre and MP Hugh Bayley cut the ribbon alongside Andy Wright, Barclays’s regional director.

Mr Wright, regional director of Barclays UK Retail Banking, said: “York is an important market for Barclays and the newly refurbished branch embraces innovative technology and design which will enable our customers to interact with us in a way that suits them and in surroundings that are comfortable and accessible for all.”

Launch activities included free giveaways and performances from Spikey Will with his bed of nails and Faces Of Disco.

Mr Bayley said: “It`s good to see a global giant like Barclays not only committed to York, but investing in our city centre and in its services to customers.

“The new facilities will provide the latest technology for customers and the new design of the branch will improve access to and give greater privacy as well as a better place to do their banking.”

Paul Molloy, branch manager for York, said: “The refurbishment has been an exciting project and we’re delighted to be able to provide such a broad spectrum of services all from one site. The new premises will allow us to deliver the great service our customers expect and the investment in the new premises confirms our commitment to York and the surrounding region.”
