Armco IT’s ambitions to expand further

A MALTON IT company has its sights set on further expansion after completing the Investors In People standard.
Armco IT, based in The Maltings in Castlegate, has just recruited a new member of staff and hopes to expand to eight people in the next few years after focusing on its business performance.
Sally Armstrong, who owns the business with husband Tony, who is the managing director, said the process of getting the Investors In People standard had improved the whole business.
“They get you to draw up a business plan and work out the direction you need to go in and how you need to improve. It’s not just for staff, although being a small company staff are involved in every aspect of our business. It also includes letting your customers know what’s going on, and improving all of your processes so you’re more efficient.”
She said the process had enabled them to step back and focus on the future of the business, building a plan of where they want to be in five years’ time. “It’s focused us more and made the business we’re doing more efficient, which frees our time up for other things, like looking at what opportunities there are to be had around the area.
“With a small business, you get involved in the day-to-day running of it and get bogged down with doing things, rather than sitting back and looking at where you want to go over the next five years and how to get there.”
She said the business, which was involved in getting fibreoptic broadband into the Maltings business centre and also through to the new Talbot Hotel, said demand was growing as client projects which were on hold during the recession, have started to move forward again.
She said the business, which does only business to business IT work, was looking at employing apprentices to train its own talent and hoped to raise its profile to Ryedale businesses and further toward York.
