MORE than 40 local businesses attended an event to see whether they could be involved in the scheme to build the new community hospital and civic centre in Selby.

The Selby Community Project is a partnership between Selby District Council and NHS North Yorkshire and York Community and Mental Health Services who plan to move into a new building adjacent to the existing War Memorial Hospital next year.

More than 40 representatives from local construction trades, alongside support services such as security, catering and cleaning, attended the event on Monday which was run in collaboration with the appointed building contractor for the project – BAM Construction.

Speaking on behalf of the project, Coun Mark Crane, leader of the council, said: “It is fantastic to see such a great response to this event. It has given a number of local and regional firms the opportunity to compete for work on what is an important community project.”
