A SEVEN figure funding package has been secured by a York-based health supplement supplier as it looks to increase both its product range and staff numbers.

Power Body Nutrition, based in Dunnington, imports health-boosting supplements from the USA and Europe and is now looking to significantly increase its stock capacity after tying down funds from HSBC.

The seven-figure funding package will create four new jobs at the company’s headquarters on the outskirts of York, and is expected to support a 60 per cent increase in turnover over the coming financial year.

Bart Ratus, general manager of Power Body Nutrition, said: "The appetite for improving health and fitness has really taken hold in recent years and we have built a reputation for our expertise in supplying supplements, vitamins and minerals from around the world.

"Increasing demand for greater volume and wider choices has cemented our need to grow and HSBC’s support has allowed the business to expand with confidence."

Power Body Nutrition specialises in selecting health supplements, functional foods, vitamins as well as fitness and bodybuilding supplements, supplying more than 7,000 products from 150 brands.

The York company was launched in 2007 and now employs 45 full time staff members and delivers to gyms and shops across most of Europe.

Earlier this year the business forecast turnover growth of 58 per cent in 2018 after it started the year with a 83 per cent rise in revenues for January to more than £2 million, compared to the same month in 2017.

Andy Howard, relationship director for North Yorkshire at HSBC,said: "It is exciting to see a company at the forefront of their industry continue to innovate and grow. The products that Power Body Nutrition source are highly regarded by consumers and suppliers alike, you only have to look at their social media following to appreciate that value. We’re delighted to support the business’s growth."

Last year the firm secured £200,000 from the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund.
