A YORK health science business heralded by experts as “healthcare’s most promising and lucrative frontier” is launching an online shop for its slimming products as part of its transition from a research and development company to a commercial business.

In a scientific and commercial update issued yesterday, the AIM listed business revealed plans to build revenues for each of its divisions to between £5 million and £10 million through the launch of a online store next month.

The York Science Park-based firm said the online store will create “a shop window for its technologies and products” and will sell its own branded weight loss GoFigure products, as well as its wider range of sugar replacement SlimBiome products, and its LPLDL ingredient formulations.

Stephen O’Hara, chief executive of OptiBiotix, said: “The Company believes it is making strong scientific and commercial progress across all its technology and product platforms.

“This has led to a number of deals with each division building a rich deal pipeline, which if successfully concluded, will lead to significant revenues in the months and years ahead.

“Industry interest is coming from national retailers and global corporates which have potential for significant upside given the scale of their market reach.

“We remain on track with our strategy of building multiple revenue streams from both consumer and pharmaceutical products across all our technology platforms.”

The firm’s OptiBiome division has seen its SlimBiome product developed with a number of partners into breaded products, biscuits, dairy, gummies (children’s products), muesli pots, porridge pots, healthy snacks such as yoghurt coated fruits, and a range of cereals in puff, flakes, and crisp format.

Optibiotix says its now in “late stage discussions” with three supermarkets over the potential to create a health and wellbeing own label brand for one of the major supermarkets.

The company is also extending its OptiBiome range beyond its weight management SlimBiome product, to include cardiovascular health (CardioBiome), immune health (ImmunoBiome), cognitive health (PsychoBiome), and general health (WellBiome).
