THE company behind the York Potash project has entered into a design and build contract with a mine shaft specialist after ditching a notice of award issued to another firm last year.
Sirius Minerals has appointed DMC Mining Services for the construction of its four shafts required for its potash mine near Whitby.
Sirius had been in discussions with AMC UK Ltd and was expecting to finalise contracts following the notice of award in July 2017.
However Sirius has said that due to “protracted discussions with AMC regarding commercial arrangements” it has since engaged with other companies, including DMC, which has ultimately been selected, ending talks with AMC.
Sirius chief executive Chris Fraser said: “DMC represents a strong partner, commercially aligned to our success. We are confident that they can deliver the North Yorkshire polyhalite project shafts significantly earlier than all previous expectations and we look forward to working with the team.”
