AN expanding national builders merchant has chosen York for its latest branch – creating 50 jobs in the city.

The new Selco Builders Warehouse will be based in Osbaldwick Link Road, with the doors due to open in February.

Selco already has branches in Bradford and Leeds, with the York opening marking its third site in Yorkshire.

Recruitment will cover a variety of positions, with virtually all jobs expected to be given to people locally.

The opening forms part of a UK branch expansion programme, during which Selco will have doubled its trade-only business over a five year period.

Declan Ronayne, chief executive of Selco Builders Warehouse, said: “York is our first opening in 2018 and will take our number of branches in the UK to 60.

“Selco has undergone huge and rapid growth over the last five years and the plan is for that to continue. The Leeds and Bradford branches have given us a base in Yorkshire over the last few years and we are delighted to be strengthening our presence. Our recruitment policy has always been to employ people from the branch’s local community and that is continuing in York.”
