YORK based virtual reality game designer New Moon Studios saw its latest creation tested out by a host of celebrities after being appointed to deliver a project for CoppaFeel.

The breast cancer awareness organisation, founded by Kris Halenga who was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 23, sought out New Moon Studios for its eighth annual festival Festifeel.

New Moon Studios, based at York Science Park, was asked to develop a game to promote breast awareness, which would be launched as pat of the event.

Founder of New Moon Studios Andy Nye, said “We were delighted when we were approached by Happy Ending Agency to take part in this year’s festival.

“Kris has such an inspirational story, we were delighted to help support this year’s festival.”

The game was launched as part of the green room at the festival, and luminaries such as Lauren Laverne, Denai Moore, Bear Grooves, Busted and Giovanna Fletcher pulled on an Oculus Rift headset to immerse themselves in a surreal virtual world.

The game will now get a full release on PC with a mobile version to follow, with 60 per cent of the profits from the game to be donated to Coppafeel to help them continue to raise awareness.

Ross Popejoy, founder of Happy Ending - the creative agency for this year’s festival, said: “As soon as we thought of using virtual reality, I knew that New Moon were the perfect people to create it for us.

“They turned around the project in just a few weeks and created an outstanding concept that truly embodied the spirit and fun of the festival.”

Founded in 2008, the New Moon Studios team has more than 30 years of combined experience in helping brands bring their ideas to life.

Their list of successful project includes a diverse range of customers, from their work on the HMS Caroline exhibit for the National Museum of the Royal Navy, through to their work for the launch of the Hollywood blockbuster, Pacific Rim.

This year’s Festifeel was hosted at the House of Vans in London, and included a comedy poetry hour with Laurie Bolger, graffiti workshops, boob chat, glitter, nail art, a donut wall and the virtual reality game developed by New Moon Studios to help spread the message in a new and novel way.
