A SUSTAINABLE residential development built on a former working haulage yard has been named as the Best Residential Development in Yorkshire and the Humber.

Property developer, Mandale Homes will pick up the accolade in the UK Property Awards in London ceremony on 27 October.

The disused lorry park on a brownfield site in Slingsby has been transformed into Cavendish Vale, a living development featuring 18 luxury homes (2, 3 and 4 beds) with nine different styles and has been sympathetically designed in keeping with the local area.

Mandale Homes of Stockton-on-Tees created the showpiece development to complement the charm and character of the traditional buildings within Slingsby.

Originally the company planned to build 24 homes on the site, but reduced this to 18 in line with the types of homes in demand in the local area.

Landscaping of the scheme was also designed to encourage native wildlife back to the site and Mandale retained as much of the original boundary vegetation as possible, incorporating it into the design, alongside protecting and trimming trees for future enjoyment by the local community.

Every aspect of the design, build and interiors of the homes within Cavendish Vale included environmental considerations, from sourcing local materials to reduce transport costs and CO2 production to fitting energy efficient household appliances and low level lighting schemes, which reduce light pollution and energy consumption.

The UK Property Awards are judged by an independent panel of 70 industry experts and focus on design, quality, service, innovation, originality and commitment to sustainability.

Richard Harriman, operations director, Mandale Homes said: “As a niche property developer we pride ourselves on creating homes that enhance the local communities we operate in, building quality, high specifications and consideration into every home as standard.

"This award is true testament to the team’s hard work on this sustainable development.”
