A HOTEL in Malton has re-opened under new ownership.
The Mount Hotel in Yorkersgate shut suddenly in December 2015 after the previous owners went bankrupt.
It has now been taken on by local couple Jane and Mark Schofield and their children Will and Jess.
The couple formerly owned Will’s Bar in the market place, then the Blacksmith’s Arms at Westow, then had “a bit of a break”. Jane said: “We’ve completely refurbished the groundfloor, with a new bar, restaurant and function room, and a state-of-the-art kitchen. The hotel rooms have also had a refresh.”
She added that what was the German bar is going to become a new Will’s Bar. “People spoke about how good it was so we said we’d bring it back,” she said.
Head chef from the Blacksmith’s, Nick Leadrill, is in place and the business is “fully operational” after opening last month, she added.
“It’s very exciting, we’ve had a brilliant start. We’ve had such a lot of support from local people - all our old customers.”
