A YORK city centre office building from the 1720’s has changed hands for close to £1 million.

Real estate advisor Savills, on behalf of a private client, has sold the Grade II listed Bathurst House in Micklegate, for in excess of the £995,000 guide price.

The new owner, a private investor, has acquired the property ahead of the lease with current occupants, BHP Chartered Accountants, being due to expire in December, after which BHP will vacate.

The Georgian property was previously a private dwelling and hotel, as well as a former home to York YWCA and York University. It was converted for office use in the 1980’s.

Paddy Carter of Savills, said: “This landmark property attracted significant interest due to its future development potential, subject to the necessary planning consent.”
