A MUM-of-two has launched an online social network to connect parents across the region.

Ryedale Mumbler is an online parenting community to provide support, reassurance and up to date information on events, days out, weekly classes as well as jobs for parents, offers, recommendations, trusted tradesman and reviews.

It has been set up by Sarah-Jane Barker, known as SJ, following the support she received from other Mumbler groups.

SJ, 35, who lives with her husband, Charlie, and children, Henry, four, and two-year-old Eliza, in Westow, said the Mumbler Group has been a great success over the past five years having been started in Harrogate by Sally Haslewood and is now spreading across the country.

“I was brought up on the Wolds but moved away after university, eventually persuading my husband that this was where we needed to be,” she added.

“Moving to Ryedale, I soon realised how tricky it is to get to know the simple, child related things. I quickly saw the need for a local Mumbler, to bring this information and the valuable support network to parents, carers and grandparents in the area.”

SJ said: “Mumbler was brilliant when I had Eliza. There is always someone that’s going through the same phase or has recently conquered it.

“During those night feeds, knowing that there was someone else local on Facebook via York Mumbler was a massive comfort.”

The Mumbler also has a healthcare page for weekly health visitor and midwife clinics, one-off events at children’s centres and general maternity and healthcare information.

SJ said: “Ryedale is a fantastic place to raise a family.

“There are lots of great places to visit and things to do within Ryedale. I just want to help other parents, carers and visitors find those hidden gems.

“I have lived rurally most of my life so it’s always been second nature to jump in the car and travel. You don’t need to venture far from Ryedale. I hope I can highlight to you what is on your doorstep and believe me there is loads.”

Ryedale Mumbler has a Facebook page and website with a number of prizes for people to win donated by local companies.
