TRAVELODGE has begun recruiting 47 members of staff as it prepares to open its fifth hotel in York this summer.

The UK’s largest independent hotel brand said the complex in Layerthorpe - one of 15 new hotels the company is opening across the country this year - is scheduled to open in early July.

A spokeswoman said it had been estimated the hotel would boost the local economy annually by £3 million.

“The 128-room, purpose built hotel with Bar Café and on-site car-parking is a convenient 10 minute walk from The Shambles and ideally located for the annual 4 million business and leisure travellers visiting the city” she said. “Rooms will be available from £29.

York Press:

“It will feature the next generation of the company’s ‘Travelodgical’ contemporary room design.

“Together with the Travelodge Dreamer bed, this now includes new bedside USB charging points, new softer LED ceiling lighting, giving the room a warmer feel, comfort cooling and a Samsung 32 inch digital television.”

She said Travelodge was looking for 47 ‘enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about delivering great customer service,’ adding: “Positions include receptionists, night receptionists, housekeeping, guest room cleaners and bar café team members.”

John Schofield, district manager for Yorkshire, said:”Our focus now is to find 47 motivated people to join our existing York team and be a key part of our 10,000 nationwide Travelodge team.

“If you have passion, determination and a real desire to look after people then we will help you learn the rest.

“At Travelodge, we are committed to developing our colleagues. We have a successful internal management development programme in place called ‘Aspire’ which helps entry level colleagues successfully climb the career ladder into management.

“Joining a hotel company such as Travelodge opens the door to training and real career progression.”

The complex is just the latest in a series of hotels to be built in York in recent years, with others having opened or preparing to open in streets including Walmgate, Toft Green, Peasholme Green and Station Rise. Some have suggested the city has reached its capacity but the growth seems to continue unabated.
