EXTREME endurance adventurer Sean Conway has joined Twisted as the Thirsk-based company’s latest ambassador, as he continues his preparations for his world record attempt to cycle the 8,500-mile route around the coast of Australia.

Famed for his off-the-scale endurance challenges, Mr Conway has already tackled some of the world’s most extreme adventures – and will fly the flag for Twisted in his latest challenge Down Under.

Twisted specialises in making extensive modifications to standard Land Rover Defenders. The highly trained team often spends hundreds of hours on each project, improving everything, and all designed according to the customer’s individual requirements.

The Zimbabwe-born adventurer was presented with his own bespoke Twisted vehicle by company founder and owner Charles Fawcett at its headquarters in Thirsk.

In his role as ambassador, Mr Conway will attend events on behalf of Twisted and provide regular blog and social media updates, as he continues to push the boundaries of adventure and explore the world.

Mr Conway, who is only man to have cycled, swum and run the length of Britain, will embark on his latest challenge in June, when he aims to cycle 20 hours and more than 240 miles for 35 consecutive days, and complete a route around the coast of Australia that is longer than the distance between the UK and Malaysia.

During his journey he will battle extreme heat in the day and freezing temperatures at night, and must drink up to 12 litres of water a day to maintain hydration levels.

Mr Conway said: “As I prepare to push my body to the breaking point in my latest 'anti-ordinary' adventure, it is with immense pride that I join Twisted as an ambassador.

“It’s really exciting to receive my own vehicle. I’d been hearing all about it from the Twisted team so it’s great to finally get the keys.

“I will battle extreme temperatures at both ends of the spectrum, and get by on less than four hours sleep a day, but I am relishing the challenge and will be proud to fly the Twisted flag on my latest 'anti-ordinary' adventure.”

Mr Charles Fawcett said: “Since the formation of Twisted in 2000, we have dedicated ourselves to celebrating the anti-ordinary through the improvement, restoration and re-engineering of a single iconic vehicle – the Land Rover Defender® .

“Sean’s own anti-ordinary story and his jaw-dropping achievements as an extreme endurance adventurer, make him the natural fit to become our newest ambassador.”
