A NEW Information Technology (IT) apprenticeship will be added to York Minster’s apprenticeship programme, starting this summer.

The IT training position will be the first in a series of new bespoke apprenticeships specifically designed to provide the vocational skills and trades required by employers.

Announced during National Apprenticeship Week 2017, the new IT apprenticeship is one of five that will be offered at the Minster, the others being gardener, joiner, plumber, and stonemason.

Ruth Dunlop, director of human resources, said apprentices had an ancient and honourable place in the cathedral’s history.

For many years these had been in trades and skills associated with the stoneyard and works department but now the Minster wanted to extend the programme to include other areas starting with IT.

“We are fully committed to developing people and their skills through our apprenticeship programme,” she said.
