A SELBY caterer who has served receptions for hundreds of Selby brides has finally retired.

David Buckle, 60, who opened The Chicken Shop in New Lane, Selby, more than 40 years ago has been doing outside catering for 35 years, alongside working in the shop, and latterly his shop in Flaxley Road.

Apart from his wedding work, Mr Buckle has been involved with lots of corporate work in the area, for Selby District Council, JORVIK Centre in York, Carlton Towers for 30 years, and has catered for two royal visits to the town.

His final job was the annual Christmas party at Selby Railway Club which was held last week, for which he has catered for more than 20 years.

He said: “I have enjoyed the work very much, and many of my clients have become good friends.

Mr Buckle said he will now concentrate on his many other interests, including photography, and he has been a member of Sherburn Camera Club for 30 years, and acted as its chairman for 25 years.

He was recently elected Selby District Councillor for Sherburn in Elmet where he lives, and also serves on the village parish council.

Mr Buckle is also chairman of the Craft and Food Fair which will be held in Sherburn over the August Bank Holiday.
