YORK Carers Centre is working to raise awareness of the efforts of unpaid carers with employers in the city.

Around one in seven workers in the UK combine paid work with unpaid caring roles and many carers report that they feel isolated in the workplace and feel their managers and work colleagues do not understand the challenges and difficulties they face, the organisation said.

In a bid to make organisations aware of the benefits of being ‘carer friendly’ and to adopt policies which support working carers to balance their work and caring roles, York Carers Centre has made a Working Carers Pack.

It is asking carers who have a supportive employer to get in touch, with the aim of signing employers up to its Carers Charter. If you have any stories you are willing to share please contact Shirley Monteith on 01904 715490 or Shirley.monteith@yorkcarerscentre.co.uk

Shirley can also offer advice to carers who are experiencing difficulties at work due to their caring role.
