A STEAKHOUSE is gearing up to open on the site of a former pub and Indian restaurant.

Brew and Brisket is opening at the end of the month after new owners took over the old Bumper Castle pub, in Wigginton Road.

The premises were most recently the Babursie Castle restaurant, which closed.

Now they have been revamped and will open for the evening on February 22, before re-opening on a full time basis two days later.

Manager Khaled Abdulgani said: “We started work a couple of months ago to re-decorate.

“We have got new signs, new branding, new tables and chairs.

“We haven’t messed around with the structure, we have tailored it to our own ethos.”

The premises, in Clifton Moor, is close to an industrial estate, but Mr Abdulgani is confident of attracting customers and making sure they return.

“The real emphasis is on making it a destination venue,” he added.

“There’s a lot of new housing estates in Clifton Moor and there’s going to be about 1,000 new homes here, so it’s a good time to set up a business and get amongst the community.

York Press:

“We are going to focus on the steaks and meats.

“We will have tapas at lunchtime, an a la carte menu, rib eye and fillet steaks in the evening, with really high end quality meats.

“We also want to do a lunch offering and coffees for office workers nearby and generally have something for everyone.”

Mr Abdulgani says he also wants to provide something for children and is looking to renovate space outside the restaurant into an area attractive to youngsters.

He said: “Steakhouses in the city centre don’t really have that much to offer children but we have a large garden and are looking at putting a farm in and really targeting families.”

Brew and Brisket will be serving lunch from noon to 4pm, Monday to Saturday.

The restaurant also will have an la carte menu served from from 6pm to 10pm every night with a Sunday roast service from noon to 4pm.
