THE man behind the York Food and Drink Festival has been named as the new chairman of the York Business Improvement District.
Michael Hjort, who also owns Walmgate Ale House, contributed to previous BID campaigns, which support programmes to benefit businesses in and around York city centre.
Mr Hjort said: "As a city-centre business owner, I am aware of the opportunities and challenges York’s businesses face and will work with the BID to help address these current concerns as well as future aspirations.
"The BID’s work has delivered notable results less than a year into its term. Moving forward, the BID will build upon its existing programmes and develop new programmes that lend to the upkeep and growth of York’s businesses and thriving economy."
Going forward, the BID will work with the council on parking, signage, and money-saving utility packages for businesses.
