A YORK accountant did so well when sitting her tax exam that the professional governing body has used her paper as a model to help students across the country.

Laura Train, a tax specialist at JWP Creers, has had her answers in the Chartered Institute of Taxation’s UK VAT, SDLT and IPT Advisory paper posted online as examples of best practice.

Mrs Train, a former York College student, who joined JWP Creers’ York office in 2006 , was one of only 28 per cent of candidates to pass the exam paper, achieving a 58 per cent pass mark.

JWP Creers funded the qualification and provided study support for Mrs Train, who works in the firm’s nine-strong tax department.

JWP Creers partner responsible for training, Jill Campbell, said: “We pride ourselves on our high levels of technical expertise and like providing career training for school leavers so we can develop our own staff in our approach to client service.

“Laura’s success is further evidence of why this works so well. She has worked very hard for this exam and we are all very pleased for her.”
