A LONG-ESTABLISHED cafe and snack bar in York city centre is to become an Italian ice-cream shop.

Bells of York in Parliament Street has been sold by Stuart and Elaine Bell, who will continue to run its sister business, the Bells of York café and outside catering business on Low Ousegate.

Roberto Culivicchi, who opened Roberto’s Authentic Italian Gelato in Goodramgate in April 2015, has bought the Parliament Street business and lease and will open his second Italian ice cream shop in the coming months.

Chartered surveyors Barry Crux & Company said the lease, business goodwill and fixtures and fittings were sold off an asking price of £65,000.

It said the café and snack bar had a prominent corner position in Parliament Street, at the entrance to Shambles Market and enjoyed excellent footfall.

It has an inside café area and also an outside seating area, which is popular with locals and tourists.
