BUSINESS is booming for a company near York, which is enjoying its best year ever and has just celebrated the re-opening of its newly-refurbished offices.

Abaxis UK, at Chessingham Park, in Dunnington, supplies the UK veterinary industry with high-tech blood diagnostic equipment, and is among the leading companies in its field in the UK.

The business says it is planning to expand its offices in Dunnington, where it has two sites.

Kai Crawshaw, marketing manager for the firm, said: “So far, 2016 has been our best year so far.

“Every quarter so far has been our best ever, and the plan is for that to continue."

Last Thursday, the company, which has an American owner, marked the re-opening of its revamped offices with a Thanksgiving-themed celebration.

Before the refurbishment, the building contained a warehouse and service department, but they have been relocated to Abaxis’ other site in Dunnington.

After a complete overhaul of the interior, its main building now has eight offices, a meeting room, boardroom, large open plan office and a dedicated customer service area.

Mr Crawshaw added: “We had outgrown the building and with company expansion planned the revamp was needed.”

Abaxis UK was formerly known as Quality Clinical Reagents, which had served the veterinary profession for more than 30 years.

It was taken over by Abaxis in November 2014, and since then the business has grown significantly.

Mr Crawshaw said: “Since Abaxis took over we have employed seven new members of staff, and the workload continues to increase.”

Abaxis UK currently employs 24 staff, but Mr Crawshaw believes that figure is likely to rise in the future.

The business welcomed a new managing director in April this year. Brian Renn took on the role having previously worked for Abaxis in America, where it has offices in California. It also has offices in Germany.

“The growth has been much greater since Brian became MD,” Mr Crawshaw said.
