A NORTH Yorkshire pet food company has acquired a 130,000 sq ft factory in Wales as part of its expansion plans.

Inspired Pet Nutrition and its subsidiary, The Real Petfood Company, intend to create 20 jobs within two years, with its workforce expected to grow to 100 employees within five years.

Based at Dalton Airfield near Topcliffe, Inspired Pet Nutrition is investing £6 million in acquiring, refurbishing and re-equipping the factory premises.

Inspired Pet Nutrition, formerly known as Wagg Foods, is the UK’s largest independent producer of dry pet food with a turnover of £70 million. The company makes more than115,000 tonnes of pet food every year, with products sold across several countries.

The company was advised by commercial property solicitor James Kimberley, of Yorkshire law firm Gordons.

Anthony Stones, finance director at Inspired Pet Nutrition, said: “This is a significant investment which will boost our production capacity by some 600 per cent.”

He said Mr Kimberley and the team at Gordons were able to negotiate a deal in line with some commercially driven time requirements, and liaised with the Welsh government to ensure the deal was structured in a way that worked for all parties.
