THE team behind a thriving farm shop near Selby that started out with a barrow and an honesty box is celebrating after winning a prestigious award for its retail prowess.
Hillam-based Bert’s Barrow was awarded Best Retailer in the East Yorkshire Local Food Network (EYLFN)and Beverley Food Festival Awards at Tickton Grange.
Charlotte Wells-Thompson, co-founder of Bert’s Barrow, said: “We have had an amazing year that includes appearing on TV programme Made in Leeds and hosting some fantastic events, so to cap it off with the EYLFN win is just amazing.”
The brainchild of villagers Ian (Bert) Thompson and his wife Marlene, the business started life as an old barrow that was dressed with local produce and left it at the front of the family farm with an honesty box. Mr Thompson’s son, Jason, and his wife, Charlotte, have developed the farm shop.
