AN EAST Yorkshire food festival has been given a boost thanks to a local enterprise.

Poultry firm T Soanes & Son has been announced as one of the main sponsors of the 11th annual Beverley Food Festival, which takes place on October 2.

The support will help towards building the infrastructure of the cookery theatre marquee, where seven renowned local chefs will be creating dishes using produce sourced primarily from East Yorkshire.

Three other organisations from the surrounding area have also agreed to sponsor the popular festival.

Tom Kingston, sales manager at T Soanes & Son, said the Middleton on the Wolds venture had wanted to give something back to the community and to promote its own game business.

He said: “In addition to rearing our own poultry, we also source an extensive range of game and, as the festival coincides with the start of the game season, it ties in nicely with our game offering.”

The food festival will showcase local producers and feature entertainment, music from Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalists The Garnett Sisters and street food.

There will also be demonstrations from culinary experts James Mackenzie from The Pipe and Glass Inn, David Nowell from Tickton Grange and Beverley pastry chef Thierry Condette. The organisers are expecting about 20,000 visitors to the free event, from 9.30am and 4pm in Beverley Market Place.
