YORK Outer's MP has urged the Government to support research.
Julian Sturdy, chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Science and Technology in Agriculture, has asked ministers for promises that agri-food research will be in the Government’s strategy for supporting innovation and delivering food security.
Science minister Jo Johnson told him the Government was putting £160 million into agri-tech, and creating a UK-wide food innovation network, to help businesses access technology and science.
Mr Sturdy welcomed the funding, and added: “Maintaining our agri-tech industry is important both for innovation and economic growth, and for national security through the contribution it makes to safeguarding our food supply.”
